Asulkan Mystery
This painting is a semi-abstract and depicts a hike Teyjah did in the Asulkan Valley in Glacier National Park, British Columbia. On either side of the trail were boulders and talus rock fragments strewn around, and one missed step meant it was a long way down. “The landscape was both stark and awe-inspiring. I made it down only through the help of a newfound friend who was on the hike. Throughout the excursion my mind wandered as to what would happen if I had to be rescued. The plane was the imagined answer to my fears, and represents these memories. I survived and created this painting as a reminder of my persistence and determination. I called it ‘Asulkan Mystery’ because the painting has a sense of darkness in the trees and mountains, but a quirkiness in the lines and chosen colours. The guy who stayed and supported me throughout this ordeal became a friend. I did a similar painting for him for his 50th birthday.”
