Mislabeled Domain, Blockchain and the Future of Football Data

Last week, however, a file landed in front of me that carried the label 'football' but contained nothing about football. This article treats that mislabelling as a data-integrity failure and argues that blockchain can give sports analytics an immutable provenance layer. It proposes a five-layer architecture: source layer, capture layer, metadata layer, validation layer and distribution layer. Smart contracts would reject domain mismatches, flag suspicious records and preserve audit trails. The contrarian view is that blockchain cannot fix bad input; it only records it permanently. Therefore human curators, source reputation scores and permissioned ledgers are essential. The takeaway is that football data needs not only better numbers but also a better memory. A blockchain can be that memory, letting the ledger speak when the stadium is silent.
